Our pre-kindergarteners have been busy learning about Winter and all the wonderful wonders of the season. This week we transitioned to Art Appreciation, a two week unit that teaches students about some of the world's greatest artists of all times. Students learn through exploration of many different art media as they are given the opportunity to recreate some of the world's greatest works with their own take on it.
This week will be a short week in PreK since school will be closed on Nov. 11th in observance of Veteran's Day. To honor those that have served we will be wearing red, white and blue on Wednesday of this week for our spirit day. We will be continuing to learn more about fall, but we will also start to focus our attention on preparations for our Thanksgiving program. Please continue to have your child practice his/her lines at home. Sign up information for Thanksgiving was emailed last week and a written RSVP for the program was placed in folders.
In September we had a grand entrance with a circus theme and like the human cannonball, it was a blast! Our month continued to Teddy Bear Picnic where students rounded out their week enjoying lunch with their favorite furry bears. The end of month recognized Johnny Appleseed's birth and all of his accomplishment. Johnny Appleseed traveled the United States spreading the love of God, sharing his knowledge of apples, growing and starting apple orchards in several states and making friends with animals along the way. We could all learn a little from Johnny Appleseed who believed that every man was his brother.
Pop! on in for a great start to a fantastic year in pre-kindergarten. We are looking forward to the start of another great year at St. John's Preschool. This IS our circus and these ARE our monkeys! We can't wait for this wild ride to begin.
This week our focus will be on different types of transportation. Students will create a helicopter, trash truck and hot air balloon. They will participate is STEM activities related to wheels and movement of vehicles and building pathways. The reading lessons are progressing to new letter sounds including o, f and u. Many of the students are getting excited as they begin to independently sound out words in the lessons.
Extended Day Pre-K students have been busy learning about gingerbread. The teachers have been reading different variations of the original story, "The Gingerbread Man." Students will complete the week in celebration with a gingerbread party.
Students are also gearing up for a showing of "The Grinch". Students will be using tens frames to count and identify numbers, work on identifying elements of the story, building sentences, creating a Grinch craft and more! Students will do a comparison of the Grinch story in the book versus the storyline of the movie. |
