Kindergarten is finishing up our second marking term. Students have made tremendous progress this year as they work towards individual goals. They are studying the wind, in math - less, equal and more, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in social studies, their senses and trees and in reading - CVC, word families, sight word decodables and level readers. Students are earning special treats and prizes as they achieve sight word goals. And because kindergarten at SJP isn't all work, students will make and have spaghetti in class together. Our friends are learning and growing together.
Our Thanksgiving Feast is this week. We are so excited to be sharing these moments with our families. The children have been working hard to prepare a nice program for you. They have also been working hard in class learning high frequency words, reading, writing, working on numbers 11-20, making sets, filling in missing numbers, sequencing, counting objects, learning about trees and Thanksgiving. Our days are filled with productivity becoming good citizens and working towards our daily goals.
Our kindergarten students have been busy learning! The class learned about Chrysanthemum, while listening for sounds and rhythm. They were forming straight lines and practicing writing each others' names to get acquainted with each other. Their days have consisted of reading workshops, writing, movement, math units, math workshops, lunch together, science social studies, recess and so much more! Our oldest students are learning to be good citizens while learning academics. They are building their knowledge of sight words. They incorporated some teachable moments when a friend brought in a caterpillar from their garden. The class made hungry caterpillars and read the book. They are rounding out the month with butterfly life cycle and a tree unit in science. In social studies they continue with their citizenship unit. For math our kindergarten friends are making sets, filling in missing numbers, sequencing, counting and so much more! They are finding success and making great advancements in reading and writing.
In Kindergarten we become SHORE of ourselves and let any worries DRIFT away. We won't COAST through life because we'll SEAS life's moments! We'll SOAK up the positive energy and just keep SWIMMING. So DIVE on in and join the fun of kindergarten at St. John's!
Students are participating in daily acts of kindness for Lent. The list of high frequency words for each child is increasing weekly. For Reading this week stduents will be working on rhyming, listening to sounds, listening to and identifying spoken sentences, asking questions, monitoring and clarifying, predicting, informational text, cause and effect. They are working on numbers 1-100 and counting on from any number. For Social Studies the class will continue to learn about great moments in Black History. For Science, we will continue to learn about our senses.
Traditional Day Pre-K has been working hard to complete their Christmas crafts. Classes usually schedule a project week in an effort to knock out some BIG surprises heading into the holiday season.
Traditional Pre-K is also gearing up for the Grinch. They will read the story, use tens frames to count and identify numbers, identify parts of the story, make a Grinch craft and more! After the movie viewing, students will compare the story of the Grinch in the book versus the storyline of the movie. |
